Coordinated search for AN-32: Naval Chief
Chennai: As many as 17 ships – 13 from the Navy and four from the Air Force – and 18 aircraft have been involved in the massive search operations to locate the missing AN 32 aircraft, Naval Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba said on Monday.
In an update about the operations that entered the 4th day in the Bay of Bengal, Mr Lanba said they have received inputs from the satellite images and all leads coming from different directions are being followed meticulously.
“Search areas have been designated. Over 250 hours of aircraft sorties have been flown (since Friday when the aircraft went missing while flying over the Bay of Bengal),” he said.
Meanwhile, the Indian Navy has activated an international safety network to alert the merchant ships passing by the zone of search operation to look out for any survivors or the debris.
