Vijayawada: AP Women Commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma has said that women are safe in AP as the state government has been initiating a series of measures to ensure safety.

Speaking to reporters in AP Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday, the women panel head stated that the AP government had constituted Internal Complaints Committee as part of implementation of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, in order to provide protection against sexual harassment of women at work place and to redress complaints of sexual harassment. She said that any work place having more 10 women working, should set up ICC without fail in both government and private offices.

The women panel head said that as part of an year long action plan called ‘Sabala,' they were organising regional meetings with the sole agenda on sexual harassment of women and redressal. She expressed gratitude to the state government for its prompt response to the reports being submitted to it for action.

She said that that the action plan on women protection in AP was submitted to the National Commission for Women, Rekha Sharma.

With regard to constitution of Local Complaints Committee, she said that she would hold a review meet with the district collectors soon to help women get safety and added that the women panel would also take up a series of programme in coordination with the police to prevent women trafficking.

The AP women panel head attended a seminar held under the aegis of National Commissioner for Women in New Delhi.
