Painting contest, bike rally against drug abuse in Kozhikode

The State award for the best anti-drug club has been announced to JDT Islamic College, Vellimadukunnu

KOZHIKODE: District excise department has organised a slew of awareness programmes and public campaigns as part of observing the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the department organised a district-level painting competition and a bike rally to spread the message among the general public especially the youth against the evils of drug abuse, carrying the posters of ‘Say no to Drugs’.

“We are expecting the commissioner of excise along with the state government to announce the anti-narcotic mission in the state, which will later help us strengthen our campaigns,” said deputy excise commissioner P.K. Suresh. Officials from the department, Childline India Foundation, District Child Protection Unit, and the District Legal Service Society is taking the initiative to play the lead role in making the observance meaningful.

The State award for the best anti-drug club has been announced to JDT Islamic College, Vellimadukunnu, which will be handed over to the representatives of the institution in a state level anti-drug abuse function to be observed in the capital city. “We take it as pride that an institution in our district was able to attain this title, and more activities will be launched to effectively curb the use of narcotic products in the district,” he said.
