Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala University has decided to install CCTV cameras in the examination halls of self-financing colleges affiliated to the university. The meeting of the Kerala University syndicate on June 18 held here endorsed the decision following complaints of mass copying in the colleges under the university with the support of the college managements.
The examination squad of the Kerala University had found many instances of copying leading to the debarring of such students in the past. Even Governor P. Sathasivam, chancellor of universities, had intervened in the wake of reports of mass copying. The meeting of the chancellor's council directed the universities to install CCTV cameras in all the examination halls of self-financing colleges immediately.
The meeting convened on April 29, 2015 and attended by all vice-chancellors in the state had stressed the need for improving transparency in the conduct of examinations. The Kerala High Court, while considering the case filed by Kerala Self-Financing Engineering College Managements Association against Mahatma Gandhi University on November 9, 2015, held that every endeavour should be made to install CCTV cameras in the examination halls.
