It's official, Thrissur now a fully Wi-Fi enabled city
Thrissur: Tourism minister A C Moideen on Saturday declared Thrissur as a wi-fi city. As a part of the wi-fi project of the corporation, in association with Reliance Jio, major landmarks in all the 55 divisions will become wi-fi hotspots in the next three months. In the second phase, it will cover Sakthan Thampuran and North bus stands.
“In the corporation office and on its premises, the wi-fi will be completely free and in other spots users will be charged after a certain limit. The civic body is not paying any money to the service provider as they consider it as a marketing method,” corporation secretary K. M. Bashir told DC.
Even though there is a usage limit in places other than the office of the civic body and its premises, the company assured free usage for a day. One can use wi-fi for all the basic needs like registration of births, wedding and deaths and payment of taxes with the civic body among others, corporation officials said. At present, ten hotspots were set up at MO Road and adjacent Pattalam Road, where the public could avail free wi-fi as of now.
"By turning on the wi-fi of your Android phone, the service provider will give a password for each user on a daily basis," Mr Bashir said. Farm minister V. S. Sunil Kumar, mayor Ajitha Jayarajan, deputy mayor Varghese Kandamkulathi and others attended the launch held at corporation office.
