Bharat Ratna sought for NTR

HYDERABAD: TPCC treasurer P. Sudarshan Reddy said that political parties depend on vote bank politics but TD patriarch N.T. Rama Rao gave preference to the people and did not see them only as voters.

He said N.T. Rama Rao had scrapped Jamabandi in single-window societies after coming to power. He reduced the burden on farmers who depended on submersible pump sets by slashing power charges.

He was speaking at an event to mark the birth centenary celebrations of Telugu Desam founder and former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao, at Dharmaram (B) village in Nizamabad district on Thursday. The local unit of the Telangana Kamma Seva Samithi conducted the programme. Former ministers Mandava Venkateshwar Rao and P. Babu Mohan also attended the programme.

Babu Mohan said that the Centre should confer the Bharat Ratna on N.T. Rama Rao, who served the people of united Andhra Pradesh. He had increased the image of Telugu across the globe, Babu Mohan said. Revolutionary decisions like scrapping the Patel-patwari system in the Telangana region and setting up mandals had taken governance to the doorsteps of the people.

Venkateshwara Rao said that leaders who began their careers with the Telugu Desam were playing key roles in all major parties. The meeting also released a souvenir on N.T. Rama Rao. Handicrafts Corporation's former chairman M.Amarnath Babu, Vidyasagar, Rama Rao and others were present.
