25 suspected dengue cases in Malappuram

Most of the suspected cases were reported from the residents of Kerala, Panthra and Chembankad areas of Karuvarakundu panchayat.

Malappuram: As many as 25 suspected dengue fever cases were reported from high-range areas of Karuvarakkundu and Kaliavu in Malappuram during the past few days following pre-monsoon showers.

All of them with symptoms of depleted platelet count and fever sought treatment at the Community Health Centre in Kalikavu.

Seventeen with serious symptoms were later transferred to Manjeri Medical College for further treatment.

The district medical authorities have embarked on preventive measures in the areas to thwart further spread of the life threatening illness and a team led by Deputy District Medical Officer Dr Shibu Lal has also visited the areas to take a stock of the situation.

Most of the suspected cases were reported from the residents of Kerala, Panthra and Chembankad areas of Karuvarakundu panchayat.

However, according to the District Medical Officer Dr Ummer Farook, only five cases dengue were confirmed in Karuvarakundu.

“There are many suspected cases in many parts of the district including Malappuram municipality. But most of them are yet to be confirmed. The efforts to prevent further spread of suspected cases are on,” he said.
