HYDERABAD: SR Nagar police felicitated five people for rescuing a woman who was being attacked and harassed by a man.
The victim, Lakshmi, was being attacked with a knife by one M. Kishore.
“I had returned home when I heard some commotion outside. My brother and I stepped out and saw the accused attacking the woman. We were initially scared as he had a knife. But we picked a stick and tried to push the man. He dropped the weapon and ran from the spot,” said one Rathod Shankar.
Since Kishore was from the same locality, Shankar and others identified him and alerted the police. The victim was taken to a private hospital.
Police officials later detained Kishore, and produced him before a local court. The accused was then sent to judicial remand.
Shankar, along with M. Maruthi, Rathod Raoji Nayak, Syed Azer Ali and Aakash, were felicitated by the police for their act of courage.
SR Nagar inspector K. Saidulu said the five people displayed exemplary courage in saving the woman, adding that they were an inspiration to others.
Meanwhile, the girl’s family said Kishore had been harassing her for a long time and continued harassing her even after she was engaged to another person. Lakshmi is currently recovering at the hospital.
