Life sciences major Ferring comes to Hyderabad

KTR said that Ferring, a leader in reproductive medicine and maternal health, will invest around Rs 25 crore in the city

HYDERABAD: Pharmaceutical and medical devices companies from across the globe are evincing an overwhelming interest in investing in the life sciences sector at Genome Valley here, minister for industries, and information technology K.T. Rama Rao said on Monday.

Speaking at the inaugural of the Switzerland-based Ferring Pharmaceuticals’ facility at Genome Valley, Rao said that Ferring, a leader in reproductive medicine and maternal health, with an investment of around Rs 25 crore, will focus on developing and manufacturing gastroenterology and urology products.

Rao said “Ferring has about 12 R&D centres and 13 manufacturing sites across the globe, I have been told that the state-of-the-art facilities have unique capabilities in formulation, packaging and analytical developments. I am glad that the company will focus on developing and manufacturing urology products.”

The Ferring unit, which was originally planned to be set up in Maharashtra, chose Hyderabad as its home. This is a testament for the overall ecosystem in Telangana for life sciences and also the pro-business policies of the state government, which continue to attract global research and development leaders in life sciences, he said.

Francois Hosotte, vice-president of Ferring, said the company is a research-driven, specialty bio-pharmaceutical company.

“Everything we do is integral to our mission of heralding healthy families and helping people live better lives,” he said.
