Hyderabad: Family appeals to rescue stranded girl

Ms Tabasum Begum said her daughter had fallen ill and wanted to return, but the employer was demanding repayment of the money he had paid to Fatima.

Hyderabad: City resident Tabassum Begum of Kurmaguda has sought the help of the external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj to rescue her daughter Syeda Maryam who is stranded in Doha, Qatar.

Ms Tabassum Begum complained that one Fatima alias Tolichowki Fatima and another woman of the same name, said to be working as a journalist in Doha, had offered Ms Maryam the job of a nurse with a monthly salary of Rs 40,000, food and accommodation facilities. Her daughter went to Doha along with the journalist Fatima on March 10. On reaching Doha airport, Fatima handed over Maryam to one Gopal, but both of them were arrested by the local police.

She alleged that two days later journalist Fatima came to the police station, and took her daughter and sold her to a recruitment agent office for a payment of Rs 2 lakh. Maryam was being asked to work as a domestic help and not being given food and accommodation. Ms Tabasum Begum said her daughter had fallen ill and wanted to return, but the employer was demanding repayment of the money he had paid to Fatima.
