Complex tumour successfully removed in Pudukkottai GH

A medical college release said that she was admitted in the hospital on March 30, on complaints of headache and visual impairment.

Pudukkottai: A doctors team of Government medical college hospital Pudukkottai led by the college dean Dr AL. Meenakshisundaram successfully removed a complicated tumor by a surgical procedure on a 55-year-old woman Ponnammal hailing from Avudaiyar Kovil in Pudukkottai district.

A medical college release said that she was admitted in the hospital on March 30, on complaints of headache and visual impairment. On examination, she was found to be suffering from left front ‘oparietal meningioma’, a tumour measuring 5cm-by-3cm-by-2cm.

The release said as it was a cancerous growth it was decided to remove the tumor by a surgical procedure and the surgery was performed on April 13 by a team of doctors including chief anesthesiologist Dr M. Ravikumar and assistant doctor Saravanan who administered anesthesia and neurosurgeon Dr Stalin Rajkumar with Dr Bharathiraja and other paramedical staff .

During surgery, it was found that the patient was suffering from left front 'oparietal meningioma' which compressed the right side of the brain and also the optic nerve. Hence the tumor was removed with much precision and during the surgical procedure four units of blood were transfused. The Removed the tumor was sent for Histopathological Examination which confirmed the cancerous growth. The patient is being discharged on Thursday, the release added. Dr AL. Meeenakshi Sundarami congratulated the medical team for their good work. What would have cost Rs 2.50 lakh in a private hospital, was done free of cost at the Pudukkottai government medical college hospital under insurance scheme, he said.
