Wayanad: NDA offers legal aid to family in land dispute
WAYANAD: Kerala Congress chairman P.C. Thomas, a member of the NDA high-power committee, visited the land of late farmer Kanjirathinkal George at Kanhirangad near Vellamunda, illegally kept in the forest department possession despite various reports favouring the farmer. Accompanied by BJP district president Saji Shanker, the team including legal experts examined the land. Addressing reporters Mr Thomas said he had already filed a review petition in the High Court as it had failed to consider the two critical reports submitted by the vigilance and former Wayanad sub-collector Seeram Sambasiva Rao. “It is mysterious that the government failed to produce the two reports at the court even after much hue and cry by the public,” Mr Thomas said.
“We are ready to go up to any extent to ensure legal support to the family.” K.K. James, the son-in-law of the farmer, said though he had submitted all the reports to the counsel, the crucial documents failed to reach the abode of justice. “I hope the intervention of Mr Thomas, an advocate and also a former junior Union minister for law and justice, would have a positive impact on the ongoing legal course,” he said. Mr James, along with his wife Treesa, daughter of Mr George, is on an indefinite sit-in before the Wayanad Collectorate for more than six hundred days now. Mr George and his brother Jose bought the twelve acres of Janmam patta land way back in 1967. Both George and wife Elikkutti died.
