Panoor police station opens library

Outcome of peace meeting held at Panoor.

KANNUR: The peace meeting initiated at the chief ministerial- level in February has had a positive outcome in Panur - a portion of the police station building, once used as barracks has turned into a library and reading room. The facility, for the public, was opened on Tuesday by district police chief G. Siva Vikram. The family of youngsters Mufeed and Muneer, who had passed away in an accident in Panoor three years ago, had formed a trust in the name of these children, and they donated Rs 25, 000 to buy books and reading materials for the station.

NGOs and the public also donated and set up the room. “Earlier, the place was notorious for violence. Now, the crime rate has come down and we were no longer using that room. During talks at the station, I put the idea before local leaders and they agreed to it. ‘Janamaithri Panur’ WhatsApp group also generously donated,” said SI Faizal M.S.
