No liquor sale in Thrissur from May 4 to 6

Helicams and jib cams banned from Kodiyettam' on April 29 till May 6.

Thrissur: All liquor outlets of the Beverages corporation and Consumerfed along with beer and wine parlours within the Thrissur corporation limit will remain closed from May 4 afternoon till May 6 noon in view of the Pooram. Collector A. Kowsigan told reporters here on Tuesday that helicams and jib cams would be banned in Thrissur town from ‘Kodiyettam’ on April 29 till May 6. The Pooram will begin on May 5 morning with ‘cherupoorams’ reaching Vadakkumna- than temple and will end with the ceremonial ‘upacharam chollal’ (two elephants wishing each other by raising their trunks) on May 6 noon. The fireworks will be held at 3 a.m. on May 6.

The sky above Thrissur town will remain a no-fly zone on May 5 and 6 for ensuring safety. Helicopters will not be allowed to fly above the Pooram venue. A giant LCD screen will be installed so that the Pooram buffs can watch the famous ‘Illanithara Melam.’ The samples of fireworks submitted by Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu had been tested by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) at Sivakasi. As per preliminary information, the PESO officials were satisfied with the samples. They will oversee the preparation of the fireworks by both the devaswoms and all the items need to carry a label citing the chemical used and that of the name of the licensees, the collector said.
