Rajagiri College gets UGC's CPE status

College to get a five-year spanning grant of Rs 1.5 crore

KOCHI: In a prestigious achievement, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences (autonomous) has been identified by the UGC as the “College with Potential for Excellence” (CPE) during the 12th Five Year Plan period.

Only seven colleges have been identified from Kerala in this scheme of the Central Government and Rajagiri stands as the only college under the Mahatma Gandhi University. The award carries a five-year spanning grant of Rs 1.5 crore.

“The additional funds that will come to Rajagiri as CPE will be used in the under graduate level for technology assisted student competence mapping and development of individualised plan, additional remedial programmes and mentoring, field integrated learning, professional–student interface programme and competence enhancement programmes too will be undertaken,” said the institution’s executive director Dr. Joseph I Injodey.

For the Post Graduate Programmes, under the scheme, the focus will be on global education and practice exposures, enrichment of teachers, online course content management and delivery, teaching aids, social policy analysis and research forum, international cross-cultural faculty –student collaborative research and publication, research dissemination programmes and research-management programme.

The funds will also be used for the extension programmes which are in full swing now like the Rajagiri initiative for social entrepreneurship, community-based action research and documentation of best practices and social inclusion programme for domestic migrant labourers.

Rajagiri College was established in 1955 and in the first accreditation by NAAC, Rajagiri got the top most status of five star and in the re-accreditation process, Rajagiri gained the then highest rating of A+.
