Hyderabad's STPs trial run nearing completion

Hyderabad: The trial run for sewage treatment plants (STPs) being constructed under the aegis of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is nearing completion, board managing director Dana Kishore said on Saturday.

Kishore reviewed the STP works at Durgam Cheruvu, Mullakathuva Cheruvu, Rainbow Vista, Fatehnagar and Hyderabad Public School.

Kishore said that work had been completed on the Durgam Cheruvu STP, with a capacity of 7 million gallons a day (MLD), and it was undergoing trial runs for 20 days. Civil works were complete in most of the STPs, he said. In some others, the installation of equipment was on.

Minister K.T. Rama Rao has instructed officials to ensure that the people living around the STPs do not face any problem, and special arrangements are being made to prevent stench emanating from them, Kishore said.

Along with these, gardening and walking tracks are being built in the premises of the STPs, with work being done in three shifts with adequate safety measures being followed.

Kishore said 31 STPs were being constructed at a cost of Rs 3,866.41 crore in three phases with the aim to treat all the sewage generated in the city.

Board executive director Dr M. Satyanarayana, project director Sridhar Babu and senior officials joined Kishore in the inspection.
