High alert in Kannur and Kozhikode after Madrassa teacher killing
KANNUR: Police is on high alert in Kannur and Kozhikode districts in the wake of escalating communal tension over the murder of a madrassa teacher in Kasargod. It may be recalled that three youngsters were arrested on Friday for the murder of madrassa teacher Muhammed Riyas Moulavi in Old Choori late on Monday night. The accused S. Ajesh, 20, Nidhin, 19, and Akhilesh, 25, natives of Kelugude, were arrested by a special investigation team led by Kannur Crime Branch SP A. Srinivas.
There are reports that some extremist elements would try to create tension in Talipparamba in Kannur district and Nadapuram in Kozhikode district. Sources in the police told this newpsaper that these areas have a history of retaliation whenever there were such incidents in Kasargod. “We have enlisted such communally sensitive spots and ensured adequate surveillance,” the official said.
Police also received intelligence inputs on secret meetings at various pockets in Nadapuram region after the murder of the madrassa teacher. Those involved in communal violence cases in the past are under police radar.
