Developed nations behind pollution, says Chief Justice of India
New Delhi: Chief Justice of India J.S. Khehar on Saturday blamed the developed nations for environmental pollution and degradation as they keep on producing toxic wastes without taking steps to tackle the menace.
Speaking at the World Conference on Environment, organised by the National Green Tribunal, the CJI pointed out that developed nations are not willing to offer financial and technological help to tackle environmental pollution.
He said, significantly, not only the emission history of developed world is forgotten in terms of compensation for poisoning the environment, but also the colonial history of the use of resources for the developed world leaving behind a wounded socio-economic system of inequality of opportunity.
Bush had rejected Kyoto Protocol
The CJI said that the developed countries with a small percentage of global population control higher levels of processing technologies and thereby keep on producing more toxic waste. He said developing nations with largest populations are at risk.
He said former US President George Bush had refused to ratify the Kyoto protocol and it remained to be seen as to whether Donald Trump will implement the Paris agreement.
