Hyderabad: TS students pursuing engineering and other PG disciplines in the Sri Padmavati Mahila University in Tirupati are spending sleepless nights with no word on their fee reimbursement dues, according to varsity officials. They had even shot off a letter to the TSCHE, in which they pointed out that their certificates wouldn’t be issued unless the fee dues were cleared.
Since Padmavati happened to be the only women’s varsity in the undivided state, students from Andhra, Telangana and Rayalaseema regions preferred higher education, especially engineering there.
Most of the students who joined the engineering stream in 2012 and 2013 are preparing for their final year exams to be held in April and May.
It may be mentioned here that both TS and AP governments reached an understanding that fee reimbursement would be extended to students who opt for studies in the other Telugu state.
Varsity officials told DC that nearly 220 students hailing from TS and studying in the varsity were awaiting fee reimbursement for 2014-15 ('34 lakh) and 2015-16 ('28 lakh)
“Certificates cannot be issued by the varsity to these students as they have not paid the fee. Also, these students will lose the opportunity of getting jobs and to pursue higher studies,” the officials said.
Meanwhile, SC development department secretary Benhur Mahesh Dutt tried to allay the fears of students, saying that government had provided epass website for the beneficiary students to log in and avail the fee benefit.
