Ex MP writes to defence minister on cantonment land

HYDERABAD: Telangana is unable to implement road development initiatives like expansion of roads and building highways due to the pendency of approvals from the defence ministry. TS Planning Board vice-chairman B. Vinod Kumar, former MP, said in a letter to defence minister Rajnath Singh.

This had resulted in traffic congestion, resulting in long travel times, increased air pollution and a significant reduction in the quality of life, he said.

He said that the government intended to increase travel efficiency and expand the roads leading to Rajiv Rahadari which goes to Karimnagar from the city. “I understand that the proposed route will pass through defence land, and thus request your ministry to provide all necessary approvals for expansion of the roads project,” he stated.

He told Singh that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and minister K.T. Rama Rao had written multiple letters regarding the proposed expansion of roads and building an expressway through the cantonment which lies between Parade Ground and the Outer Ring Road Junction at Shamirpet on the outskirts.

“The construction of this expressway will significantly reduce travel time and relieve traffic congestion,” he said and sought approval for using cantonment land to build the road to the Rajiv Rahadari.
