Bibinagar AIIMS to be ready by October 2024

HYDERABAD: The Union health ministry said that work on the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Bibinagar was scheduled to be completed by October 2024.

In a reply to a RTI query by activist I. Ravi Kumar, the ministry said it had spent Rs 156.01 crore on the AIIMS-B works so far. The Centre had sanctioned the hospital at an estimated cost of Rs 1,028 crore.

Ravi Kumar said that in first reply, the ministry had stated that RS 23.85 crore had been spent and works would be completed by September 2022. In a latest reply, the ministry had given the new deadline.

The Centre had sanctioned AIIMS for Telangana state under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), but the delay in release of funds had led to the escalation of project cost from Rs 1,028 crore to RS 1,365.95 crore, he said.

Of the 16 across the country, seven were complete, he said. Telangana state government had handed over land and a few buildings, meant for the Nizam’s Institute for Medical Sciences, for the AIIMS unit but the Centre had failed to release adequate funds, he said.
