Work of Mattanur mini stadium to start Thursday

The stadium will have a gallery, shops, changing rooms, toilets, mini football ground with synthetic turf and an outdoor volleyball court.

Kannur: Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs E.P. Jayarajan will inaugurate the work for constructing a mini stadium at Mattanur on February 28.

The stadium has been planned as part of the government's policy of developing sports infrastructure across the state, giving a thrust to sporting activities at the grassroots.

The mini stadium was proposed in the 2016-17 modified budget, to be developed with funding from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The stadium will come up at 2.7 acres of land of Koodali panchayat at a cost of Rs 4.07 crore.

The stadium will have a gallery, shops, changing rooms, toilets, mini football ground with synthetic turf and an outdoor volleyball court.

KITCO Ltd will be constructing the stadium complex under the supervision of the Engineering Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.

P.P. Noufal, president, Koodali panchayat, will preside over the function. P.K. Sreemathi, MP, and K.V. Sumesh, president, district panchayat, will be the chief guests.

K.Nanu, member, district panchayat, K.K. Pavithran, president, District Sports Council, K.V. Mohanan, vice-president, Iritti panchayat and K. V. Krishnan, chairman, standing committee (development), Koodali panchayat will be present at the function.
