Case against Gowreesha Hospital after child deformity
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A family has registered a case of medical negligence against Gowreesha Hospital, Pattom, after a child was born with deformities despite the mother undergoing regular scans there. The male child born to Bineesh, 26, and Lavanya, 22, of Karichal near Aryanad on Friday did not have the left hand. They also allege a slight deformity to his right leg. As per the couple, the mother has been regularly undergoing check-ups at the hospital since three months of pregnancy. She also underwent six scans during pregnancy. However, at no stage doctors warned of a possible deformity.
Tension prevailed at the hospital as some of the relatives denied that the child was theirs. A DNA test will be now conducted to verify the claims. A large posse of police officers in over half a dozen SUVs was deployed at the spot near Gowreesapattom temple on Friday night itself to prevent ruckus in the area as Sivaratri celebration was progressing nearby. “The hospital official contest that deformities can be detected only after five months of pregnancy. Also, the deformity might have been missed out due to peculiar location of the child in the womb. We have registered a case and started a probe,” said sub-inspector B. Girilal.
