Suspend Jagtial MLA who harassed women public representative: NHIV

WARANGAL: Leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) must immediately stop harassment of women leaders, the state general secretary of the National Handloom Ikya Vedika (NHIV), Guda Lavanya, has said.

She said chief minister Chandrasekhar Rao should respond to the incident involving the Jagtial municipal chairperson Bhoga Shravani and must suspend MLA Sanjay Kumar from the party. “If leaders, who should protect the weak, are harassing women public representatives, what would be the plight of ordinary women here,” she said in a statement here on Thursday.

The Jagtial Municipal chairperson Boga Shravani belonged to the weaver’s community. She openly accused the MLA of harassing her. “One can understand how democracy is flourishing in the state by seeing how Shravani submitted her resignation in front of the media,” she said.

“For the past three years, Shravani had worked hard for the development of Jagtial town. Unable to digest the fact that she was earning a good name, MLA Sanjay started harassing her by not clearing the bills and financially putting her into trouble. Whenever a meeting was held, he insulted Shravani in front of the public and made her suffer mentally. He even threatened that he would finish off her entire family members,” it was alleged.

Lavanya said, “This is not the Telangana the people wanted. Telangana was achieved after the sacrifices of several hundreds of people. Now, under the rule of landlords and aristocrats, not only the common people but women and public representatives are also suffering a lot in the state.”

She added, “KCR must respond immediately and take stringent action against the local MLA. Otherwise, the NHIV along with all other BC organisations would intensify their protest and teach political parties a fitting lesson in coming elections.
