Doctors’ body threatens stir over pending medical council polls
HYDERABAD: The Telangana Doctors’ Federation (TDF), in an online meeting with the health department on Wednesday night, threatened to protest if the government fails to hold elections to the Telangana State Medical Council within the stipulated time.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) and Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA).
TDF President Dr K. Anvesh said that all organisations, including UG and PG students from medical colleges and practising doctors, would hold a ‘Vaidya Garjana’ in Hyderabad.
HRDA General Secretary Dr G. Srinivas said the government should immediately issue the election notification, as per the High Court order.
The organisations decided to submit representations of their demands to all officials concerned and discuss their action plan in the next online meeting on Saturday.
Touching other issues, HRDA president Dr K. Mahesh Kumar said that quackery has become like ‘naatu saara (countrymade liquor)’, as it was endangering the lives of the common man.
Meanwhile, TJUDA leaders Dr Kaushik, Dr Rahul and Dr Karshini proposed to mobilise medical students to better public health in the state.
TDF convener Dr Vijayender said permanent recruitment, both in teaching and non-teaching hospitals, should be done as per the increased number of medical seats, while the number of hospitals should be increased in accordance with the population ratio, as directed by the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS).
