Nizamabad Police Readying to Collect Pending Challans

Nizamabad: In the backdrop of the state government declaring partial waiver of pending vehicle challans, police have begun collecting the penal amounts from vehicle owners by deploying teams at various places.

Rs.10.55 crore worth challans are pending against 2.60 lakh vehicles under the Nizamabad police commissionerate limits. ₹5.10 crore has already been collected from vehicle owners pertaining to 88,845 challans.

State government had announced an 80 per cent waiver on challan amounts due from two wheelers and autos. On cars, trucks and other heavy vehicles, the waiver is 60 per cent waiver and on RTC buses and pushcarts, the waiver is 90 per cent.

Usually, police generate challans for triple riding, wrong parking, not wearing helmet, no number plate, over speed, lack of insurance and signal jumping.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) S. Jayaram said they have not yet received any communiqué from the government on waiver of pending challans against vehicles.

However, once the state government orders are issued, we will waive off the pending challans accordingly, he explained.

The ADCP said they are conducting vehicle checking to alert vehicle owners about the number challans pending against them and the amounts payable.

He stated that there is a procedure for clearing pending challans, as vehicle owners should go to the court for settlement.
