Hyderabad: The city cybercrime police arrested one Vijaykant, 34, from Noida, UP, who cheated a city resident of Rs.2.2 lakh after promising a job. He works as a teleoperator in a fake job call centre. Police said the victim, a woman from Nampally, told them that Vijaykant had offered her job in a government outfit and asked her to only complete the registration formalities. He gradually began asking her for fees under various heads, and she paid up. When he switched off the phone, she called the police, said A.V. Ranganath, joint commissioner, CCS.
Police seized six laptops, 23 mobile phones, eight cheque books, six bank cards and 80 active SIM cards from the accused.
Kukatpally Construction Company Owner Cheated of Rs.8.09 Lakh in Steel Purchase
Hyderabad: The owner of a construction firm from Kukatpally was duped of over Rs.8 lakh when he set out to buy steel. He told the Cyberabad crime police that he was searching online for dealers of a reputed steel manufacturer and clicked on a link. He received a call from the cyberfraudsters who sent him a quotation with the logo of the steel manufacturer and GST details.
Believing this, the firm owner transferred money online. The next day, the cyberfraudsters asked him to buy some more steel, as his order did not meet the firm’s limits. This continued till he paid Rs.8.09 lakh, and the fraudsters switched off the phone.
