It reflects the city's cosmopolitan ethos, says designer.

BENGALURU: Incorporating the message for which Bengaluru stands and its cosmopolitan culture, the city got itself a 'logo' becoming the first city in India to have its own tourism logo.

Out of 1,750 entries received from people, the logo designed by Venkateswara Rao of Namma Ooru team was chosen by the Department of Tourism and was handed over Rs 5 lakh prize.

The logo with 'red' and 'white' colour was a typography in English and Kannada and was launched on Sunday with street festival- Namma Bengaluru Habba. Venkateswara Rao told Deccan Chronicle, "A large panel of judges and experts selected our logo after a stringent process. We had to convey in the logo, what Bengaluru really stands for and its ethos. Kannada alphabet 'oo' has been incorporated into the logo." The logo has a primary colour of red and white. Bengaluru is a vibrant city, which allows people to do whatever they want and follow their culture. So we have highlighted the first two letters from 'Bengaluru', 'Be' and the last letter 'U' conveying the diverse culture- 'Be U'.

Bengaluru Development Minister K. J. George who unveiled the logo said that the city's image will get a boost with this logo and help attract tourists.

"Just by looking at the logo people should identify Bengaluru. With this unique logo, Bengaluru has created history and in the coming days will firmly establish Brand Bengaluru on the global tourist map which every Bengalurean can take pride of," Mr George said.

Civil evangelist V. Ravichandar felt that the logo could have been anchored with tags like 'Feel Bengaluru' and 'Coll Bengaluru' and said that "The logo was long overdue, but a great initiative. With the logo, we can hope the city to receive more investments and propel tourism." 'Mitra' the Made in India robot that stole the show at Global Entrepreneurship Summit at Hyderabad made its appearance at the event. After a technical glitch, the robot indulged in a conversation with the anchor about the special occasion and Bengaluru city.
