On a mission to protect ecosystem at Vayalada
KOZHIKODE: 'Ekos' the HSS alumni of Government Higher Secondary School Kokkallur have called for the environment protection of Vayalada. Situated near Balusserry, Vayalada is noted for its hilltop and picturesque scenery and attracts a large number of people. A recent visit by Ekos members had brought out the issue of piling plastic waste there. “Plastic waste is accumulating there with no one to take care of it. There is no fence to prevent people from entering the forest area and there are no security guards as well,” said Akshay B.S, secretary of Ekos.
Vayalada is under the forest department and the process of transferring it to tourism department is yet to take place. After many shared the beauty of the place in social media, people even from the neighbouring districts are thronging the place. The alumni body erected warning boards and waste bins calling for environment protection in the area during their visit.
“It is high time authorities wake to protect the pristine beauty of the spot. More people means more littering,” pointed Sindhu E.S, Botony teacher of the Kokkallur School. Last year, the alumni members had visited the tribal hamlets at Vakeri in Wayanad and conducted a medical camp there. Doctors in the group lead the camp. Teachers Shibu B, Muhammad C, Indu R, Subba A are providing support to the alumni group.
