New Rail Link to Cut Time and Distance Between Kurnool and Nandyal

Kurnool: A new rail project is in the pipeline. It would link Dupadu in Kurnool to Bethamcherla in Nandyal. This would reduce both time and distance for commuters.

Previously, people travelling from Kurnool to Nandyal had to go via Dhone. However, with this proposed line, they can bypass Dhone and reach Nandyal directly through Bethamcherla.

The planned 57-km rail link is expected to trim the distance between Kurnool and Nandyal by 35 km, facilitating faster travel.

“Indian Railways has put forth a proposal for this railway line connecting Dupadu on the Kurnool-Dhone line and Bethamcherla on the Nandyal-Dhone line. The project aims to eliminate the need to pass through Dhone railway station when travelling from Kurnool to Nandyal, and avoid delays associated with the changing of locomotives at Dhone station,” officials said.

Officials say the potential benefits of the new rail link for the Orvakal area are the streamlining the goods transportation from the region. With an airport in Orvakal and plans unveiled by the state government to develop the area into an industrial hub, a convenient transportation system is crucial for the smooth movement of goods and equipment.

Railway officials are working on completing the survey for the new railway line from Dupadu to Bethamcherla via Orvakal. The final location survey is a necessary step in this process. Officials say permission for the survey was granted a month ago.

The survey by a railway agency was delayed due to the ongoing elections in Telangana. The new rail link can meet the transportation needs of the Orvakal industrial corridors. The Kurnool district administration is ready to meet the land and infrastructure requirements. There are also proposals for constructing warehouses at Dupadu railway station to accommodate future needs.
