AP government will award rolling medals to SC Gurukul students

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh government will start awarding rolling gold, silver and bronze medals to students of SC Gurukuls in the state to encourage competitive spirit among them in the field of academics and sports.

Making the announcement here on Friday, social welfare minister Merugu Nagarjuna said awarding of medals will start from January 2023. Academic gold, silver and bronze medals will be given to the top three students studying in classes 5th to 8th and 9th to 12th classes, totalling to 48 medals. Another 48 medals will be awarded to those who excel in sports.

Each SC Gurukul will be giving these awards in the name of “Academic Star” and “All Rounder”.

The minister maintained that the medal scheme is being introduced to improve talent among students and develop a competitive spirit in SC Gurukuls across the state. He stated that students winning these medals will wear them on their uniforms during school hours.

Nagarjuna underlined that these medals will be awarded on a rolling basis. They will be transferred to those who have scored the highest marks or excelled in sports in the next week.

He maintained that this will increase the competitive spirit among students, as they will try to retain their medals or win them back from fellow students. The medals will be awarded from January 3, 2023 onwards, the minister added.
