CMO promises action against Khadi purdah sale
KOZHIKODE: The protest by women activists against the sale of 'khadi purdah' has yielded results with the chief minister's office promising action to stop it. 'NISA,' the progressive Muslim women's forum, had opposed 'khadi purdah' on the ground that Gandhiji was against the use of purdah by Hindus or Muslims. 'NISA' wrote to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala Women's Commission and Khadi and Village Industries Commission on Friday expressing their views.
NISA president V.P. Zuhra said that the chief minister's office had replied quickly informing that the matter had been forwarded to the Khadi commission and that proper action would be taken. "The reply from the chief minister's office shows that he understood the spirit of the complaint. We also expressed our protest against the sale of purdah through the khadi outlets to Khadi and Village Industries Commission marketing director. A reply from the director is also awaited," said Ms Zuhra.
