APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University to ratify year out changes
Thiruvananthapuram: The board of governors meeting of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University scheduled to be held on December 16 will ratify the amendments made in year out system for BTech soon. The amendments to reduce credit requirement as per the year out scheme were taken as per agreement in the meeting convened by education minister C. Raveendranath to end the students strike earlier this month.
Following the protest from students it was decided to restrict the year out scheme for registration for semester five and seven only. Till now, students had to meet minimum credit criteria for promotion to semesters four, six and eight. As per the decision, students should get at least 26 credits in semester one and two to register for the fifth semester. Students had to get at least 52 credits from semester one to semester four to register for seventh semester. Earlier, the credit requirement needed for registering for seventh semester was fixed at 71 credits.
Minimum Credit requirement for all other semesters have been removed. The restriction removed as per the amendment included the one that a student should get at least 117 credits for registering for the eighth semester, the last semester for BTech. University Pro Vice Chancellor M. Abdul Rahman told Deccan Chronicle that with the semester five and seven examinations scheduled only on June 2018, there was enough time to get the ratification of the governing body.
