Warmer nights in Hyderabad before winter sets in

The minimum temperature on Thursday morning was 14ºC, a drop of 2ºC from the normal in November.

Hyderabad: Night temperatures in the city will be below 14ºC till November 30. On an unusual turn, the city will witness warmer nights from December 1 to 10 when the minimum will be 2ºC above normal.

In the coming few days, the city will witness windy mornings due to north and northeasterly winds from the Himalayas. The minimum temperature on Thursday morning was 14ºC, a drop of 2ºC from the normal in November.

The maximum temperature on Thursday was 31.2ºC. Temperatures were appreciably below normal at a few places in Telangana with Medak recording the lowest at 11ºC.

Indian Meteorological director Y.K. Reddy said, “Currently the state is covered by low-level northerlies / northeaster winds which are dominant on the northern side of the state.” He said warmer nights in December can be seen as a normal variation in the weather condition.

“As per the climatological calculations of the IMD, January and February are considered to be winter season. However, there is no approximate date for the season to set in. It entirely depends on the drop in temperatures. If cold waves and cold day conditions are witnessed, then winter is said to set,” he said.

While no rainfall is predicted for Telangana state, moderate rain is likely in south coastal Andhra Pradesh in the second week of December due to the northeast monsoon.
