Malaparamba aided upper primary gets Rs 1 crore grant

It has a student strength of 60 and five students had joined the new kindergarten section last year.

KOZHIKODE: The Malaparamba aided upper primary school, which was taken over by the government after strong public protest over its closure by the management, will have better days ahead. Education Minister C. Raveendranath has announced the sanctioning of Rs 1 crore for its infrastructure development. "It will be renamed as Malaparamba Government UP school," he said during a visit to the school on Thursday after the Kerala High Court dismissed the school manager's petition against the takeover.

The school will be raised to international standards and made a model government upper primary school in the state, he said. The minister along with Mr A. Pradeep Kumar MLA and representatives of various political parties and the public received the students in the school from their temporary classes at the collectorate engineer's hall. "In less than one year, the school will get a new building and other facilities and will be made a model one in the state," the minister said. The government will reopen all such schools that have been closed down, he added.

Deputy Director of Education Gireesh Cholayil opened the school gate and office room and handed over charge to headmistress N.M. Preethi. The school was razed on April 11, 2014 following which the manager's brother P.K. Ajith and two helpers were arrested. There are currently eight teachers and one peon. It has a student strength of 60 and five students had joined the new kindergarten section last year.
