Kerala on suicidal course: PS Sreedharan Pillai

Mr Pillai said the war unleashed by the LDF and UDF against the BJP was a challenge which will be overcome.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP is in a tight corner with the LDF and the UDF ranged against the centre over the cooperative sector issue. Realising the need for a counter-attack, former BJP state president P. S. Sreedharan Pillai flayed the LDF government for going on a collision course with the centre when the state was facing a serious drought. Mr Pillai said the war unleashed by the LDF and UDF against the BJP was a challenge which will be overcome.

“Tamil Nadu Government had announced welfare schemes for the farmers. But in Kerala, the LDF government is on a suicidal course by antagonising the centre. The north-east monsoon was deficient and Kerala is headed for a major drought. Instead of fighting the drought, the LDF and the UDF are on a collision course,” he said. The BJP leadership has been at pains to defend the prime minister over the demonetisation decision taken by him. A few BJP men had admitted earlier that Mr Modi should have ensured adequate supply of new currencies before going for the drastic step.

When the RBI applied the curbs on the cooperative sector, the BJP leaders supported it and state president Kummanam Rajasekharan and former state president P. K. Krishnadas called on Mr Modi on Wednesday. But Mr M.T. Ramesh, BJP state general secretary, told DC that KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran had realised the danger of the UDF joining hands with the CPM in the fight against the central government. “The BJP has now become the major Opposition while the LDF and the UDF have joined hands. The people have realised which is the opposition party now,” said Mr Ramesh.
