HYDERABAD: The HMDA has decided to repair structures damaged during the monsoon rains. In particular, the collapsed fencing of NTR Gardens on Mint Compound Road will be fixed on priority at an estimated cost of Rs 2.25 lakh.
Incidentally, the garden itself has got damaged at several locations due to the rain fury. Repairing them will require Rs 13 lakh, which will be done in phases.
The HMDA has also decided to restore lake which got damaged and developed cracks on their embankments during the rains. It is estimated that temporary repairs of lakes and ponds will cost Rs 15 crore, while a permanent solution will require Rs 45 crore.
Last month, the irrigation department had formed 15 flood management groups (FMGs) headed by superintending engineers to protect 185 lakes, tanks and ponds within the GHMC and HMDA limits. These FMGs inspected the lakes and ponds and submitted reports regarding the damage.
A senior official said seven lakes within HMDA limits have developed huge cracks in their embankments, which could pose a grave threat to neighbouring colonies in case it rains again heavily. HMDA, in coordination with irrigation department, has taken up some temporary measures. However, the authority will require at least Rs 2 crore to provide a short-term solution.
The HMDA official said Lakefront Park has also been damaged to quite an extent. The authority will float tenders for doing up the park, whose proposed cost has escalated from Rs 8 crore to Rs 15 crore.
