Kochi police to refer medico death case to state medical board
Kochi: Kochi police is set to refer the case of medico Shamna Tasnim to the state medical board and is also set to send a report to the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) about the case on Tuesday. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Thrikkakara) and investigating office in the case Mr Binoy M told DC on Monday that the case will be referred in two-three days which is the next formality in the case since a difference opinion has been expressed by the forensic surgeon on the district medical board. “The City Police Commissioner will undertake the formalities in this regard,” he said.
The Assistant Commissioner also said that the police is conducting further investigation into the contradictions in the nurses record and that of the doctors. “A group of students were questioned the other day and a few nurses and other staff were questioned on Monday. A report in this regard will be sent to the state medical board,” said the Assistant Commissioner. It was on last July 18 that medico Shamna Tasnim who came with fever to Ernakulam Government Medical College collapsed and died after the administering of an antibiotic injection. Two doctors were suspended for medical negligence on the basis of the Joint DME report and the police probe into the incident has not been completed so far.
