THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the state government would take serious cognisance of the death threat issued to opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala by an underworld don. “We will seriously pursue the complaint and I assure you that there will be no laxity on the part of the police,” the Chief Minister said in the Assembly on Monday. The threat against Chennithala was first raised in the Assembly by Thiruvanchoor Radhkarishnan while moving the adjournment motion.

Chennithala later gave the complaint in writing to the Chief Minister and DGP Loknath Behera. The complaint said that he had been receiving calls for the last two days saying that he or anyone in his family would be killed if he uttered a word against Mohammad Nisham, the ‘beedi’ tycon in jail for the Chandrabose murder. Ramesh told the Assembly that it was a message that he received on the night of October 23 that forced him to make the complaint. The message read: “Don't talk rubbish about Mohammed Nisham or I will kill you or one of your family members - Don Ravi Poojari”.
