Calicut University to draft a master plan

The plan is for the effective use of resources like land, buildings

KOZHIKODE: Calicut University is planning a comprehensive, integrated master plan for the effective use of resources like land and buildings. A six-member syndicate subcommittee will draw the draft plan in six months. The decision came after various governmental agencies eyeing its land for their use. The master plan would also help formulate a policy for allotting land and other facilities for various departments and chairs.

Syndicate subcommittee convener K. K. Hanifa said it would help to use it for academic purposes effectively. The subcommittee will also look into the possibilities of converting the campus into a township with all amenities required for students, staff and public.

“At present, we don’t have an effective policy for the utilisation of vast land the varsity possesses. Many governmental and private agencies are eyeing it. If we divide the land into various zones for various developmental activities, we can tackle this threat,” he told DC. The Syndicate will also form a supporting group which includes department heads and statutory officers to help prepare the plan. Various task forces with domain experts will address areas like zonal designing and beautification.
