Now, GST on entrance exam
Thiruvananthapuram: Fears of Goods and Service Taxes (GST) being made applicable on fees loomed large on entrance aspirants as many reputed national institutions have already applied GST. Prospectus for Combined Entrance Examination conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru University for admission to M.Tech biotechnology shows the entrance exam fee as Rs 1,000 plus GST for general category including OBC and Rs 500 plus GST for SC/ST and persons with disability.
Many others have also made it clear that GST will be applicable for the exam fee.
According to the schedule of GST rates for services, services provided by the Indian Institute of Management, as per the guidelines of the Union government, to their students, by way of the following educational programmes, except executive development programme:
(a) A two-year full-time residential Post Graduate Progr-amme in Management for the Post Graduate Dipl-oma in Management, to which admissions are made on the basis of Common Aptitude Test (CAT), conducted by the Indian Institute of Management;
(b) Fellow program in management;
(c) Five-year integrated programme in management;
(d) Further, any service provided by–
(i) The National Skill Development Corporation set up by the Government of India;
(ii) A Sector Skill Council approved by National Skill Development Corporation;
(iii) An assessment agency approved by Sector Skill or National Skill Development Corporation;
(iv) A training partner approved by National Skill Development Corporation or sector skill services.
