Glitch disrupts Kochi Metro services for an hour

This is the third such instant after services in the 13-km Aluva-Palarivattom section started on June 17.

Kochi: The Kochi Metro services were disrupted for nearly an hour on Sunday after one of the rakes deployed developed a technical glitch upon reaching the Edapally station. The incident, which happened at 11 am, disrupted services for over an hour and the services were restored after the affected rake was pulled out to the Muttom metro yard using another train.

"The train that developed technical problem was one proceeding to Palarivattom from Aluva. There was comparatively a heavy rush of commuters since it was a weekend day. Finally the services were restored by 12.15 noon," said Baby Kurivilla, a native of Aluva, who was travelling in the train. A metro spokesperson said the affected rake was shifted to the muttom yard and is being examined.

This is the third such instant after services in the 13-km Aluva-Palarivattom section started on June 17. The development comes even as the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is set to inspect the five-km Palarivattom-Maha-rajas Ground section on Wednesday. The metro authorities, however, dismissed the incident as a minor issue. "It's not a cause for concern and the metro all over the world faces such issues. We're confident of getting the CMRS nod for the second reach too," the official said.
