Rs 100 crore more required for Muziris project

The maritime museum will be located close to the excavation site near Pattanam.

KOCHI: The Muziris Heritage project would require an investment to the tune of Rs 100 crore for its completion, Finance Minister Thomas Isaac told reporters on Saturday. Although the project has seen an investment to the tune of Rs 100 crore so far, only one fourth of it has been realized, he said. The fresh investment of Rs 100 crore will also cover the cost for setting up a maritime museum capturing the history and culture of the Indian Ocean trade and its links with Kerala, he said.

The maritime museum will be located close to the excavation site near Pattanam. “The space for the project has been identified”, he said. Isaac and tourism minister A.C. Moideen along with Netherlands ambassador to India Alphonsus Stoleinga visited the Muziris Heritage Project area. Moideen said that the Netherlands ambassador has agreed that he would hosts a meeting in Delhi with representatives of the countries involved in the ancient Spice Route trade for developing a tourism project.
