Amma canteens heading towards record sales
Chennai: Amma canteens are heading towards record sales and will soon make history by selling 50 crore idlis by next year, a government official said told DC after the inaugural of 107 new Amma canteens in Chennai.
Till date the city corporation through Amma canteens has sold a record of 33.60 crore idlis and 17.38 crore chapattis through 300 outlets and now with the new canteens adding up the sales and the number of beneficiaries will increase by another 20 to 25 per cent, he said.
The corporation through 300 Amma canteens had also sold variety rice for 13.9 beneficiaries and the Amma canteen module is now a most sought after scheme by other Indian states, the official added.
Earlier in the state ministers S.P. Velumani and D. Jayakumar inaugurated 107 Amma canteens. All the 15 zones including Thiruvottriyur, Manali, Madhavaram, Royapuram, Ambattur, Kodambakkam and Anna Nagar got their due of new Amma canteen allocations.
Municipal administration secretary K. Phaninder Reddy and corporation commissioner D. Karthickeyan also took part in the event along
with AIADMK legislators.
It may be noted that the last week the top brass pulled up the corporation engineers for delaying the inaugural of new Amma canteens. And with the local body polls round the corner the civic body is on an inaugural spree.
