Kerala: Top guns to meet on infrastructure funding

KIIFB seminar to examine infrastructure fund opportunities and challenges.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Institutional investors, industry experts, key financial sector regulators and policymakers are meeting here on Saturday to discuss emerging trends in public infrastructure financing. Securities and Exchanges Board of India (SEBI) chairman Ajay Tyagi will deliver the keynote address at the seminar on “Opportun-ities and challenges in public infrastructure financing”, organised by Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board. KIIFB CEO and additional chief secretary (finance) K.M Abraham will welcome.

“Career aspirations of today’s educated youth are different. We can incentivise investment by ensuring infrastructure facilities of global standards. KIIFB is working under a mandate to mobilise funds from outside our budget provisions for the creation of infrastructure facilities based on criteria set by SEBI and RBI,” he added. In the first session, Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation CEO and managing director Alkesh Kumar Sharma will share his experience in handling the land acquisition process for one of the largest and most ambitious industrial projects.

Mr Srikant Nagulapalli, former commissioner of AP Capital Region Development Authority, will speak about the unique land pooling model adopted for acquiring land for Amaravati, the new capital of AP. Additional chief secretary (planning and economic affairs) V.S. Senthil will give an overview of the role capital markets play in attracting a wider audience towards infrastructure financing.

TN principal secretary (Planning, Development and Special Initiatives) S. Krishnan will share his experience in attracting investments through capital markets and India Infrastructure Finance Company CMD Sanjeev Kaushik will speak on institutional finance while Mr Prakash Rao from the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund will speak on the use of sovereign wealth funds. Dr Abraham will make a presentation at the concluding session on land bonds and innovative instruments to raise funds. This will be followed by a panel discussion by industry experts. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate and finance minister Thomas Isaac preside.
