Kerala High Court expunges remarks on Health Minister K K Shylaja

The court issued the order on an appeal filed by the state government seeking to expunge the adverse remarks.

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday expunged the single judge’s remarks against Health Minister K.K. Shylaja in the order on a case related to the appointment of the State Child Rights Commission members. The court said that the particular observation was not necessary to decide the matter by the single judge. It made it clear that this order will not affect the merit of the case. The court issued the order on an appeal filed by the state government seeking to expunge the adverse remarks.

The petition stated that the remarks and observations were made without making the minister a respondent in the case. She was given no opportunity to explain her stand. Those remarks were not at all necessary for the proper disposal of the case, the appeal said. The single judge had quashed the appointments of T.B. Sureshkumar, CPM Wayanad district committee member, and Syamala Devi (Kasargod) as members of the State Child Rights Commission.
