Training to be given on safe use of technology.

KANNUR: The Kannur district panchayat will conduct classes on ‘Responsible parenting’ in 40 selected schools in the district, in association with the cybercell of the police and resource persons. This decision was taken after an awareness session held at the district panchayat conference hall here on Thursday. President KV Sumesh, who presided over the seminar, said that the parents as well as students would be given training on the safe use of technology, in light of the increasing instances of online abuse and children falling prey to technology.

The seminar was inaugurated by Kannur range IG Mahipal Yadav. He listed out major inventions and how the society had to adapt to change. The police chief explained a few cases where online games triggered crime. The seminar was attended by IT teachers and presidents of mother PTAs from 160 high schools and higher secondary schools in the district, along with the members of the district panchayat. Collector Mir Muhammed Ali and district police chief G. Siva Vikram spoke at the event.

A special class on the topic was given by KAP IV commandant K. Sanjay Kumar Gurudin, who recently penned a book on the issues of online safety for children titled “Is Your Child Safe?”. The mothers, who attended the classes demanded that fruitful awareness lessons be conducted in their schools too. A few of them shared their concerns about such incidents faced in their families.
