Crime Branch plans ID-parade in Shamna death case

Crime Branch DySP K. Sasidharan who probed the case has named several persons in his report but not house surgeons.

KOCHI: The Crime Branch investigating the unnatural death of medico Shamna Tasneem at Ernakulam Government Medical College is proceeding for an identification parade for house surgeons on duty when she was admitted to casualty. It is understood that the medical college authorities had failed to provide the documents in this regard or identify them. In questioning also the house surgeons claimed that they were not on duty then, which perplexed the investigators.

Crime Branch DySP K. Sasidharan who probed the case has named several persons in his report but not house surgeons. The departmental and Crime Branch investigations identified fudging of case-sheets and have a fair idea of the people on duty from handwriting which will be clearer through identification parade. However, Mr Sasidharan was transferred before the case was taken to its logical conclusion and the charge sheet is yet to be filed in the CJM’s court. Crime Branch DySP George Cherian is currently heading the investigation, and he is expected to conduct the identification parade before the Aluva CJM after Onam as some of the batch-mates of Shamna have expressed their inconvenience to be present before Onam.

IG S. Sreejith has taken supervision of the case from current SP and former DCP Yatish Chandra. An accused doctor, Jilse George, who is the head of the department of medicine at EMC had secured a month’s stay on the investigation. Dr Krishna Mohan, another physician there, is also indicted in the case by the State apex medical board which looked into the case.
