Chennai: The Swadesh Darshan scheme in which Tamil Nadu’s Rameswaram has been included in the Ramayana circuit at the national level is set to take off soon with the state government identifying the agency to prepare the detailed project report focusing on development of world class tourism.
This Union tourism ministry’s project aims at integrated development of theme-based tourist circuits and already the Centre has identified the destinations across India to be included under the Swadesh Darshan scheme.
According to a senior tourism department official, the creation of the theme-based circuits will take into account the local requirement too in addition to the amenities and connectivity issues for safe travel. “This will enrich the tourist experience besides promote employment opportunities,” he added.
The carrying capacity of the destinations would also be take into consideration while developing eco-friendly destinations.
