Krishnas with green message steel heart at Shobhayatras in Kozhikode

The Shobhayatras were conducted without using plastic and no flex were erected in the city.

Kozhikode: This year, little Krishnas stole the hearts of onlookers not only with their cuteness, but also by upholding message of environment protection.

The yatra organisers had said that 1 lakh saplings would be planted on the day with a message ‘plant saplings, provide shade, resist global warming’.

The grand procession commenced from Sreekantashwara temple at 3:45 pm with the participation of scores of little Krishnas and their Gopikas.

The main rally was led by ‘Krishnas’ and the smaller rallies by ‘Pandava brothers’.

All small processions converged into a giant one and concluded at Anna Poorneshwari temple at Muthalakkulam.

According to the organisers, as many as 400 Shobayatharas were held in different parts of the city in association with local temples.

As part of the festivities, several activities like planting of saplings, worshiping of cows, cultural programmes, felicitating farmers were held. Hundreds of people thronged roads to watch the rallies.

Besides little Krishnas, tableaux from Mahabharata were present in rallies. Organisers provided drinks and snacks to children at regular intervals.

Swamy Chidanandapuri of Kolathur Ashramam, Balagokulam office bearers C.K Surendranathan, L.N Deepak Dev among others were part of the rallies. Traffic was diverted through bypass and beach roads to avoid traffic snarls.
